Funniest Song Lyrics:

"Macarthur Park"
The Funny Lyrics:
I left the cake out in the rain,
And I worked so hard to make it,
And it took so long to bake it,
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh no!
Why They're Funny:
Believe it or not, this is supposed to be a metaphor about love-and the song itself isn't a novelty song (like 'Flying Purple People-Eater') but is intended to be taken seriously! Really. Unsurprisingly, when columnist Dave Barry did a survey about which rock songs were the worst ever (which excluded deliberately silly novelty songs), 'MacArthur Park' was number one in votes.

Nonsensical Song Lyrics:

"MacArthur Park"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark,
all the sweet green icing flowing down,
Someone left the cake out in the rain,
and I don't think I can take it,
cause it took so long to bake it,
and I'll never have that recipe again, oh nooooo...
Why They're Nonsensical:
This song makes absolutely no sense to me. What does leaving a cake out in the rain have to do with anything? How can a park 'melt'?

Insincere Song Lyrics:

"MacArther Park"
The Insincere Lyrics:
Someone left the cake out in the rain,
And I don't think I can take it, coz it took so long to bake it,
And I'll never have that recipe again, oooohh nooooo!!!!
Why They're Insincere:
This is supposed to be metaphoric for love. Who's he trying to fool??

Upbeat Songs With Depressing Lyrics:

"MacArthur Park"
The Lyrics:
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark, all the sweet green icing flowing down. Someone left the cake out in the rain. I don't think that I can take it, 'cause it took so long to bake it. And I'll never have that recipe again.
Why:
This song mentions about a man who loves a girl, but she wants something else. Donna Summer later released a Disco version of this which is more upbeat, but the lyrics are still depressing.
