Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Got a lot of people
Telling me I'm not a mama
 And I don't know why
or
 Got a lot of people
Telling me I'm not a Mormon
 And I don't know why
Got a lot of people
Telling me I'm outta my mind
 And I don't know why
The Story: My wife that misheard this one... never one to look at lyric sheets or album covers, the fact that the name of the song discloses the lyric didn't matter very much. She couldn't figure out why Tim Armstrong, Rancid frontman and former Operation Ivy guitarist, would want to be labeled as either of these things. - Submitted by: Pat

Hooker with my red hot moon
 Take a bus downtown
 To the graveyard s*** tonight.
Under the red hot moon
 Take a bus downtown
 To the graveyard shift tonight.
The Story: I went to a Rancid concert (which was awsome), and I started singing this song at the top of my lungs. I had floor tickets so everyone was packed really tight. I started singing what I thought were the lyrics and everyone around me was laughing and thinking I was stupid. But I don't think my friends heard it. They were to excited to see them on stage. LOL. - Submitted by: Caroline

The boy's a time bomb
The Story: I just thought it was by some kind of liberal new age hipsters that not necessarily were on the side of Taliban but didn't see the what was wrong with glamorizing them. - Submitted by: mike
