Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Spinners

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

A One of a Kind Love Affair: The Anthology album at Amazon.com
Spinners', "Ghetto Child"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Life ain't easy for a gentle touch.
The Real Lyrics:
Life ain't easy for a Ghetto child.
The Story: I heard this song on Smooth FM without knowingly hearing it before. The lyrics seemed to make out that the singer was an easy target for bullies, and Gentle Touch was a slang term for such a person. The DJ announced the title at the end of the song I realised I was wrong. The harmonies on the lead lines are a little hard to make out. I mentioned this to my Dad. He remembered thinking it would be funny if it was someone had misheard it as Gateau Child when it was first out. - Submitted by: Richard
Spinners', "One of a Kind (Love Affair)"

It makes me want to be a rambler

It makes me want to be a gambler
August, I'm glad I'm Fonda
The Real Lyrics:
I never thought about today would come
When she would leave without good-bye, yes, sir
(later)
It makes me want to be around ya
Ah, girl, I'm glad I found ya
The Story: I thought it could have been about the World Cup, a rambler, a gambler and/or Henry Fonda. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Spinners', "The Rubberband Man"
The Misheard Lyrics:
When I saw this short jackass
with Japan, its wings, its clothes
hey, I cried so high cause the man got down
with a long and frisky nose.
The Real Lyrics:
When I saw this show for guys
With a band between his toes
Hey I got so high 'cause the band got down
When they polarized it fo
The Story: Apparently the net is unable to supply the complete lyrics to this Seventies top ten hit by the wonderful Spinners. I bumped into this transcription which bears the moniker 'unclear' next to the title. Other instances don't even report the second verse. - Submitted by: Leonardo Rossi
