Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Do the Love!
Good lovin'.
The Story: I thought "the Love" was a dance. - Submitted by: Gary Everett

Doodle up.
Good lovin'.

One-two-three, groovin'
One-two-three, good lovin'
The Story: This is another case where getting these lyrics wrong caused me to get the song's title wrong. I heard them in a commercial for one of those recent hits collections, and the song title 'Groovin'' was displayed simultaneously with the lyrics being played (though they got the artists right). This was in early 1969, and it was some 20 years before I discovered that 'Groovin'' was a totally different song. - Submitted by: Keith Hampson

Life would be ecstasy
You (or Hugh) and me and Leslie.
 or
 Hugh and me and Leslie.
Life would be ecstacy
 You and me endlessly.
The Story: I bought the single back in the 60's and over the years I could never work out if it was 'you, or Hugh and me and Leslie, then one day about 30 years later I was singing the song to myself and suddenly realised that it was 'endlessly' with the accent on 'less' to make it fit the song better. The wheels grind slowly but get there in the end! - Submitted by: Nick Ritchie

You and me and Leslie.
You and me endlessly.
The Story: I always thought Leslie must be either their friend or their little girl. - Submitted by: Jimbo Xavier
