The Lyrics
This parody concerns the German Junkers Jumo 004B Orkan engines that powered the Me-262 jet fighter in WW2. It is told from the POV of a Blackbird which was the nickname of the maintence crews that wore black overalls that serviced the Me-262 and the engines knowing full well the war was lost. They risked their lives to keep the jet and its 10 hr life engines running. By war's end that operational life was extened to 25 hrs and new models of the Jumo had higher thrust and even afterburning with the E-model of 1945. However, the Blackbird here laments the lack of strategic materials involved and the newer He-162 jet that appeared in April 1945 powered by a single BMW 003 jet engine. There were actually several new jet fighters under construction to be powered by a third engine, the He S 011. Both the Jumo 004 engine and the Me-262 were nicknamed "Turbos". In the end, special circular pilots' badges were being manufactured to distinguish jet pilots from prop-pilots. Pics below of all relevent info...
