Recently, Al Silver was complaining not enough parodies are 'simple and fun' and I think he has a point. Here's an attempt to remedy that with a belated epitaph to a real-life Disney princess. Surprised no one thought of this gift OS. All too young perhaps?
I almost was, at least my hormones were in the 50s, when she was sometimes cynically referred to as 'the overdeveloped mousketeer'. But Miss Funicello rose above all that. She really lived that image of the wholesome, all-American girl on-and-off screen and her battle with MS over the last 25 years of her life was an inspiration to all. No wonder she was Uncle Walt's favorite.

* Frankie Avalon, who partnered her in several very successful 'beach movies' which helped define Californian teen culture in the early 60s. Walt famously forbade Annette to show her navel, and she complied.

I was college-age when Annette hit the air. Despite her physical precocity, and her subsequent beach blanket adventures, she was always pure. I had to listen to Mellow Yellow on Youtube and also access the lyrics. Excellent fit with your tribute. I'm sad about her, too. She was a good girl who should have had more fun.

Thanks Al, AFW and Lennie. Poor Annette - she lived the dream for the first half of her life, so it would seem, and lived a nightmare for the second. Cruel that such a gracious woman was robbed of growing old graciously.
