The Lyrics
Mermaid's Curse, or Ondine's Syndrome, is a genetic disorder, which is both extremely rare and extremely nasty. It causes the patient to stop breathing when he or she falls asleep. There are currently four persons suffering from this disorder in Finland. I've tried to put myself in the situation and make a song.
Now don't you raise a fuss, and don't you go now sordid
I got Mermaid's Curse, it's genetic a disorder
It hits me everytime when I try to go to bed -
no mam, I won't breathe and soon I'd end up dead
- It ain't just sleep apnea - no, it is something worse
I can't go asleep with the Mermaid's Curse!
When the others hit the hay I will prepare for dormation
I sleep in iron lung and it is no celebration
When I fall asleep, the machine will breathe for me -
whithout it, a nap could soon be a fatal dream
- I need a ventilator or an alert to a nurse
It's a pain to try to sleep with the Mermaid's Curse!
At work and home I'm fine but I cannot have vacation
I can't find a hotel which could arrange ventilation
I'm not trapped in my home, but I must be back at nine
My kid's say "Hey mom, you too have a strict bedtime"
- At least it can be treated and there's no need for the hearse
It could be much more worse than just Mermaid's Curse!
