A very difficult song with the yodeling and the lyrics sites had many different arrangements for the lyrics. Do not know if this is formatted properly...???
High on a hill were some lonely gunners
Rangefinders, rangefinders, altitude zoom
Loud was the roar of approaching bombers
Now that they were coming into view
Folks in the town where war plants belched smoke heard
Pratt & Whitneys droning that would spell their doom
Swinging 88s being fed by loaders
Barrels raised, “Feuer!”- boom, boom, boom!
Bomb bay doors opening too, sticks of bombs on their way

More fire erupted from the town’s flak towers

TY CML... but still not sure of proper format. I liken this to a pencil that's good enought to write with but needs sharpening. The stresses with the yodeling were annoying so I just replaced them with conventional lyrics and crude rhyming. But, overall, I still think get the picture of a typical 1000 bomber raid on the Reich and German attempts to fight back.
Yeah, pacing is off in places, especially the yodelling choruses - they drove me nuts too. Also, why repeat the last two verses? Nevertheless some great lines and a match-up I never would have thought of in a million years. Strange that even after your own acknowledgment of the pacing difficulties, people still score you 5s on it. The message I'm getting from that is not to take the voting seriously.
As explained above, the 3 lyrics sites had 3 different formats for the song. I did not want to repeat the last 2 verses but the lyrics site had it that way and if I cut them I might be accused of shortening the song!!! No-win situation. The yodeling was too much but I tried to match the syllables as close as possible while still rhyming the last words. Since this describes a bombing raid in progress then the repeat is suitable. As for ratings, even the vets who mess up get 5s due to fan base. I see this at every site, forum, and NG I go to. There are vets that have written crap and gotten 5s and newbies who did excellent and got 2-3s. Nothing is fair in this life. I am not a purist as parodist but a lot of people like my materials. There are alos lots of purists that write well with pacing, but their topics are boring, so what about the other two ratings???
LL, also beware of the political and sports 1-bombers. Your pacing and song structure might be perfect and you'll still get 1s for ideological differences or just b/c you like a certain sport or team that is unfavorable to others. I am really baffled that I can write about massacres, the Third Reich, Holocaust, and murder and get 5s while political anything almost certainly means at least one 111 or more based on ideology. I even got some 111s when condemning my own party! You just never know around here... sigh...
Right, I've experienced those ideological 1-bombers already. I got ones for an atheist diatribe, I can understand that, but I also got ones for this OS, reasons not clear - maybe they thought it was gay-stereotyping.
I don't really care about the voting. The written feedback is much more useful, especially from other parodists whose work you respect. In my case, I often can't comment because my knowledge of esp. radio pop post-1980 is v limited and if I don't know the OS I just skip it. My idea of 'contemporary' is like, the Eagles or Pink Floyd, lol.
