The Lyrics
"Whiter Shade Of Pale" is about as hard to decifer as "American Pie " was in it's time. Well, this parody will not be any clearer than the original.
They left the grass sod mangled,
Tracked dirt way 'cross the floor.
I was sweeping with a broomstick,
Dust clouds blew out the door.
The ground was turning harder,
As MacGreedy flailed away.
Then he called for an axe and pick,
a wider hoe and spade.
And so it was - the Spa-a-ader,
And the Tiller by his pail,
Who would face the test, and boasting,
Turn a Wider Spade of Shale . . .
He hollered, " 'Tis the season",
"When vermouth is rain to me".
So I watered on his leotards.
Couldn't I let Mac be -
One of six transvestite merchants,
Who were tilling through the sod?
And though now I'd say we're even,
You might have got to say we're odd.
Then so it was - the Spa-a-ader,
And a Boxer by his trade.
And he carries the remainder -
In the wider handled spade . . .

Not funny but really, really fascinating. I like how you made everything fragment after the vermouth. You must be familiar with vermouth, or have studied it closely! Oh, so much talent!
David, welcome back! Where've you been? This parody is really, really fascinating AND really, really funny. I like parodies that roam randomly through stream-of-consciousness silliness like this. Great job!

Hope to see more...I've been cutting back quite a bit myself lately and I think that's going to continue for at least a while...
Where've I been? The well ran dry about a year ago - then I returned to find all my Voting 5's had disappeared (I left with the third highest percentage ranking at AIR), and in their place were the dreaded Ones - and only 45 of them at that. I snapped. I wandered in and out of Seattle coffee houses in search of new material to stea...appropriate. So on the day I return - I find my former music partner, Rick Duncan is flying the coop...and on my birthday no less! You ain't goin' anywhere, Ricky. Sit down, think funny, and enjoy the damn ride!

Yikes, Rick! That's certainly being confronted with your checkered past, isn't it? We did that one in 1977...ouch! I'm thinking about getting it, even though it is horrendously overpriced. "The Voyeur" is the only record I've had any tenuous connection with (or will admit to having a connection with) that I don't own.

Rick, I had no idea Philo was a painter - and a pretty good one at that. Reminds me of the beatnik art of the late '50s. The man's a genius. He could record "Gimme Cigarette", which sounded like Sparks, and follow it up with FEAR, which was as hard-core punk as, well...FEAR. Ditto yourself: From the ethnic folk music of Pecurka to recording The Who-esque "Downers Bring Me Up".
I think I've seen those transvestite merchants - tall blokes with 5-oclock shadows - so tight was the pacing and syllable-matching David, that it sounded just like the OS - 555
Thanks Stuart. I've wanted to do this one ever since we had a showdown to see how many parodies we could come up with for "sixteen vestral virgins", about a year ago. I've been away from AIR about that long. Can anyone tell me which cybor-holes all my votes went to, and why all the dashes in my songs have been replaced question marks? Inquiring minds (mine) want to know.

David, hard to believe you missed the "Great Vote Tabulation Crash Disaster of 07/28"...It wiped away most of the votes cast between sometime in 2002 and that date, 07/28/2004. After that specific glitch occurred the next time anyone submitted a vote on one of those parodies the Site program erased all prior votes and restarted the count with that new one. I don't know if the graphics presentation issue you describe was caused by the same event...I don't think it was, but ChuckyG would know more about that than I...Yes, many of us initially pounded our chests and shed tears, but stuff happens and you move on after the initial shock wears off. Besides, parody writers tend to already have under-developed, concave chests, so you can't get too brutal there without causing permanent harm...
I'll have a stab at the second question david, altho Phil or Jeff might correct me.....because of the new web-server, only characters from basic text editors, like wordpad, are properly recognised - fancy ascii anomalies from eg. Windows Word, like ellipsi, and their long hyphen, etc. aren't, and get represented instead by question marks - because of this, many of us have now started writing our parodies in wordpad or equivalent
