The Lyrics
When I resolved to write two amiright parodies a day, I had no idea how difficult facing each deadline would be. Thursdays are becoming an especially wearing proposition. If I don't make this deadline then my songs won't appear until Monday morning. I'm using the 1974 version of the original song by Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam) because of its rowdy rocking Caribbean feel. Plus, when I perform the original at karaoke sessions I get to play the trumpet solo on my trombone. ;D
Another late Thursday night - and I'm still up and writing.
Must make the Friday song list here, my friends.
So here is why this hard deadline I'm fighting:
No posting on weekends!
When I returned to amiright
I made myself a solemn vow.
'Though it would be a lot of trouble,
Each day I'd do a double.
That's why I'm in a mess right now.
Another late Thursday night. I know I should be sleeping.
This late night writing never was much fun.
But I can hear Friday morning come creeping -
Must get my second done!
The "artists" here have told me
That each song must be a masterpiece.
But I don't write to raise my tally.
My style's like like Tin Pan Alley (1)
So I write two for release.
Another late Thursday night - must complete what I've started.
Time's Wing-ed Chariot is on my tail.
And now I fear that my muse has departed.
Tough luck! I mustn't fail.
(Instrumental break, with nice trumpet solo)
It's two in the A.M.
And I am feeling so forlorn.
For extra time I am needing
Or my friends won't be reading
My new songs until Monday morn.
Another late Thursday night. I'm not all that prolific,
Still two a day builds discipline and such.
No wonder that - J.A.B. is terrific.
How can he write so much?
Another late Thursday night, but I can't think of quitting.
I'll drink more coffee - that will see me through.
I wonder why I am double submitting.
I should write one - not two.
(There'd be no trouble - from writing double!)

(1) - Tin Pan Alley was the nickname for the American mass-producing popular music industry. As the name suggests, the total emphasis was on volume of output rather than creative excellence. I don't fear "writing myself out" by attempting two songs daily...I probably did that a long time ago. ;D

Nifty comment there TJC! OMR, thanks for introducing me to this version, though I remain a huge Sam Cooke fan (of his voice, at least). Ditto Cat Stevens. I was aware of his distinctive songwriting ability long before 'Tea for the Tillerman', his 1971 breakthrough album. I went off him when he turned Muslim and supported the fatwa against Salman Rushdie.
As for your theme (execution well up to your usual standards), why push yourself with two a day if it stresses you? Certain writers here seem to be able to manage that, but I think there are things they are not telling us (independent sources of income, early retirement, time stolen at work, time on their hands etc., whatever it is). Most of us have to devote considerable time to putting food on the table, paying the bills and so on.
With more than fifty parodies in my first four months, one could say I've been quite prolific, but that averages three or four a week, and I doubt if I could manage more and keep the quality up. I find they just come when they're ready, and will probably slow to a trickle sooner or later. This site can be quite addictive for compulsively creative people, and the exchange of comments can be rewarding too. So just chill and let the ideas come when they come.
