The Lyrics
Hitler's pirate fleet of WW2 were 10 auxilliary cruisers that had been converted from liners to appear as unarmed merchants flying a range of flase flags. They were armored and well armed with topedoes, cannons, and heavy MGs. They patrolled the world's oceans looking for easy prey and sunk 2.5 million tons of Allied shipping- second only to the U-boats with 14.1 million tons!!! These 10 ships did more damage per ship than the entire British and US Navies combined! Like the Fw-200 Condor, they were a scourge in the early war years and had to be tracked down and sunk or damaged one-by-one with great effort. The counter Armed Merchant ships proved a disaster and so military subs, destroyers, cruisers, and other warships had to be brought in to strike back. Most were destroyed but a few survived the war and W Germany got one back from Britain.

Rob - Good job here...and something I actually know something about! This were the hilfskreuzers....seemimgly innocent merchant ships which carried concealed 150mm (5,9 inch) guns. You've covered the subject most thoroughly. ;D
THESE! I'll never make it if I can't spot my mistakes...lol. ;D
These were HSK designated ships (Commerce Raiding Cruiser) with numbers which the RN identified with letters (Raider A, B, C...). Armament varied as well as armor protection but HSK 16 Atlantis had 4x 150mm guns, 1x 76mm, 2x 37mm AA + 2x 20mm AA, 93 mines, and 4x 530mm torpedo tubes! Some carried scout planes Ar-96 or He-114 or a small torpedo boat! Hansa was not completed in 1940 due to bombing...
