Not much to say except Germany took 1.3MT of bombs during WW2 and many of the latter 800-1000 bomber raids targeted Berlin.... Amazing that the Berliners still held out hope for Hitler to deliver a Wunderwaffe even by the 11th hour!!!

It makes you wonder just how people manage to live in Berlin, or Beirut, or Sarajevo and other cities that have suffered from years of war. We all heard of the fighting in Belfast from the 1960's onward. But I believe just as many people were killed in criminal acts in Kansas City over the same period, and no one ever said we were under siege.
AFAIK, Berlin had a pre-war population of 3 million which was reduced to 1.2 million by 1945. Although hit by massive 800-1000 bomber raids with 500+ escorts, the LW still fought over Berlin until the end and the Allied a/c as well as the Soviets on the ground had a very hard time with the Zoo Bunker with its heavy 128mm guns and almost indestructable building. The Soviets actually "asked" the Germans to surrender the Zoo Bunker after even their biggest cannons of 203mm barely scratched the building at near point blank range. Germans refused and so it was ringed and isolated until the official German surrender.
