There have been few, if any, presidential pardons that were not somewhat controversial. But not many have been as controversial as President Trump’s pardon of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio (who was convicted of criminal contempt of court for defying a court order to stop detaining people based solely on suspicion of their immigration status).

President Trump preserved the rump of Arpaio!
Sheriff Joe was full of woe when convicted,
Claimed innocence but evidence – contradicted!
