But the behaviour of the Russian soldiers in Ukraine is puzzling - it is hard to say whether it is outrageous or ridiculous, or just plain sucky. I mean, are the Russians so poverty-stricken and technologically backwards they need to loot the whiteware in Ukrainian homes and ship that stuff to Russia to their kinfolks?

I bet a soldier has to have special connections to get space on a truck going back to the Evil Empire, especially if it involves something as heavy as a washing machine. What are the chances that looted laundry device will actually get to where it is supposed to go, rather than being purloined by the driver for his family?
