Robert Butler's scathing review of "Night of Living Dead" in the Kansas City "Star" created a sensation for this movie and sparked a craze for low budget zombie films that continues to this day. The best thing about zombies is that they can be eliminated with firearms. If there's one thing I can't stand it's indestructible robots/monsters/prehistoric space aliens.
Speaking of which... I am disappointed that the German director of "Independence Day" did not go with "Oblivion"- the story of a Luftwaffe shoot-down of an alien craft over Berlin and all the trouble it creates for the Germans and Allies. It was to be an indestructable type creature. The Nazis of course try to bring it down and duplicate its technology for use against the Allies!!! And Where the F is "Graystone"- the sequel to "Cloverfield"???

Bill Cosby once said he couldn't believe how scared he was as a kid of the Frankenstein monster and the Mummy -- the original zombies -- because, "They are without question the slowest monsters in the world. Anybody who gets caught by them deserves to die!" As for zombies, well, any creature that can get stopped by Woody Harrelson (with help from Jesse Eisenberg, from my home town) can't be THAT hard to deal with, and thus can't be THAT scary.
