Anybody (not a current or ex-Marine ;) know where the "halls of Montezuma" were, and why they're in TOS? Or for that matter, where Tripoli was, before the current events brought it to the fore, and why *that* city is in TOS? (No peeking, of course! ;)

[1] Very early in this event, Anderson Cooper of CNN, and his web site probably, showed a cell-phone video of police opening fire on unarmed, non-violent protesters. At least one man was killed; he became a martyr whose funeral attracted most of the city, it seemed.
[2] Gadhafi came to power in a military coup in 1969.
[3] A human-rights group ranked Libya and North Korea tied for last place; i. e., tied as the two most repressive regimes on the planet.
[4] Unlike the restraint exercised by the Egyptian government, Gadhafi has used his own military to shoot and bomb the protesters. Funny thing, though -- a couple of his pilots have flown their fighters out of the country and requested asylum instead (i. e., "defected"), and a group of Libyan army officers called upon fellow soldiers to "join the people"..... Does a ton of bricks have to fall on you, Sir?

Yeah, there are 122 ways to spell this jerk's name. This is the problem of "transliteration" -- how to spell in English (Latinic alphabet) a name or other word native to a different alphabet. Phonetics may vary, and we didn't think معمر القذافي would work very well in the parody. ;) ... Went with the Associated Press spelling, which is different from the Wikipedia spelling, which is different from the Tori Spelling ... ;)

Got the first view and first comment. How many know that there are multiple verses to the Marine Hymn? "Qaddafi" doesn't seem to disturb my spellcheck. But "spellcheck" does. The brave rebels of Libya have guns and international support. The Egyptians had numbers on their side, and eventually, the Army. The bravest or most foolhardy are the people of Syria, who continue to protest, though it means certain death, outside the view of most of the world, and apparently, with little or no attempt to fight back. The death of bin Laden shows the way I think most wars should be fought. To hell with laws that prohibit assassination of foreign heads of state. If a country is worth fighting, they man at the top should be the first target.
You could also sing this to "Yellow Rose of Texas" or "The Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. "The Marine Corps Hymn" is more appropriate, of course.
Never heard of the OS, but I knew about Tripoli because I'm one of those weirdos who actually enjoys geography. The only Montezuma that I've heard of was an Aztec ruler. My dad's generation use "Montezuma's revenge" for a case of the runs!
"Funny" is an individual taste, but please look at the OS lyrics linked, match them to the parody, and point out where the mismatches occurred. Thank you.

FG has also been a victim of the "recovery" (yeah, right), being required to teach more classes and losing an assistant, hence, no time for the past three months. She made an exception for the "hot news" (LOL) of O's porn stash, and this one to accompany it, which actually, we wrote near the beginning of the event but didn't post.
It's possible we might be able to be more active when her summer break starts in a week or two. Me, I'm struggling very hard just to make a living in this *recovered* economy :P, and so not so much free time either. Thanks for v/c, and GL on the employment front.
